italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Apologies for inevitable cross-postings.
Dear colleagues
Daniele Albertazzi (Canterbury Christ Church) and Duncan McDonnell
(University of York) wish to organise a panel/panels for the UK Political
Studies Association Conference in Lincoln, 5-8 April 2004. The panel(s)
will run in conjunction with those on political parties in Italy and will
be entitled "Civil Society and political parties in
the Italian second Republic".
The panel wishes to look at the role of civil society and interest groups
in the current Italian political system. We therefore encourage papers
which examine one or more of the following interlinked questions:
How do civil society actors interact with political parties and what is
their influence on the Italian political system in general?
How are specific groups linked to particular parties and what are the
dynamics of these relationships?
Has the role of these groups changed over the last ten years parallel to
the changes in the party system? If so, how and why?
How have civil society actors reacted to the new party system and what
contribution (if any) have they made to influencing the configuration of
the current Italian political process?
We are particular concerned to attract papers which look at specific
actors and their relationships to particular parties. Civil society and
interest groups which might be considered include Confindustria, the
Church and Catholic associations, cultural associations (e.g. ARCI), the
no-global movement, social fora, girotondisti etc.
Anyone who wishes to give a paper should e-mail Daniele Albertazzi
([log in to unmask]) by 17th November with a brief abstract (circa 300 words).
