DIPEx (personal expereinces of health and illness) is a charity, with a
research groups in the University of Oxford, which runs a website
www.dipex.org based on research studies of the experiences of different
illnesses. At the moment there are modules for cancers of the breast,
bowel, prostate, testis and cervix (and cervical screening), hypertension,
epilepsy and parents of children with congenital heart disease. Lung
cancer and heart failure are about to be launched and we are also working
on antenatal screening, sexual health of young people, chronic pain,
depression, end of life, ovarian cancer, heart attack , rheumatoid
arthritis and people with dementia and their carers.
Each module includes a carefully balanced sample of narrative interviews
with 30-50 people from all over the UK - which are analysed for the site
using qualitative methods and illustrated with video, audio and written
clips. The information and Q&A section of the site is based on the best
research evidence and there are links to other sites with DISCERN
ratings. DIPEx is keen to collaborate with groups in the UK and
elsewhere to seek funding for future modules. Contact
