The Submission of the Clergy act certainly outlaws appeals to Rome (and
in fact, that provision is one of only two from the act still in force,
the other one being that canons shall not infringe royal prerogative), but
it doesn't actually declare them as treasonable, which is why I didn't
mention it earlier. That provision comes in the Act Concerning the King's
Succession. It sounds like the BBC's scriptwriters have got a little
confused here
