medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Brenda's and André-Yves's postings made me remember/realize that "France"
as a term is of rather late origin and my original question was nearly
unanswerable. So I'll revert to that part of my question that may be
answerable: when did the "cathedra" and its house, the cathedral, come
into existence? And another thing... I read Jim's posting but did not find
any specific indication of how or why anyone thought this building was a
cathedral rather than just a basilican church. Any comments?
Thanks,
MG
