INTRODUCTION
Recent years have seen significant growth in the numbers of higher
education students being taught in a further education environment. This
growth has raised a number of issues, such as:
* How to ensure quality of provision
* How to ensure equity of provision across institutions
* How to overcome cultural differences between the sectors
* How to provide physical access to resources for remote students
* How to overcome licensing and interoperability problems with
electronic resources
* What will be the effects of VLEs and MLEs?
This two-day conference, organised by Bournemouth University, seeks
to show how some of these issues are being addressed in the two sectors. It
derives in part from the HEFCE-funded DSW Project to improve the HE
infrastructure in Dorset, South Somerset and South Wiltshire, but also
highlights responses across the UK. Day One covers strategic issues; Day
Two has a more practical focus.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The conference will be of interest to all involved in the provision
of HE in the FE environment, and particularly senior academics, managers and
administrators; library, IT and learner support managers; lifelong learning
practitioners.
