WILIP: OUTCOMES & PROSPECTS FOR RESOURCEšS WIDER LIBRARIES PROGRAMME

CPI Library and Information Policy Seminar
The results of the stage 1 consultative phase of WILIP the Wider Libraries
Programme were published today. (The Full Report, and a Summary Report and
Next Steps, can be downloaded from
http://www.resource.gov.uk/action/wilip/wilip.asp - youšll need to scroll
down a bit). The reports identify the generic issues to which libraries and
information providers must respond in order to realise the vision of the
services that users will expect in the future. They highlights the key
challenges identified by respondents across all sectors.
This cross-sectoral seminar will be the first open event devoted to these
Reports.
AIM: to provide an early opportunity to examine and comment on the initial
outcomes of the project and the forthcoming strategy stage, 'Routes to
Knowledge', i.e. the next task for Resource of creating the right policy
framework and making the case to government for a more joined-up approach to
information provision.
TARGET AUDIENCE: senior managers across the library and information domain,
regional agencies and government bodies, library partnerships and
co-operatives, library schools, independent consultants, and others
concerned with the development of national policy and strategy.
Opportunities for discussion and debate are built in throughout the day.

Libraries
* Sue Westcott, Branch Head, Library and Information Services, Office of the
Deputy Prime Minister/Department for Transport
* Mary Davies, University Librarian and Head of Learning Support Services,
University of East London
* Tim Hobbs, Chief Executive, East Midlands Museums, Libraries and Archives
Council
Geoffrey Smith, independent Consultant, will be in the Chair.
VENUE: The George Hotel Business Centre, Stamford, Lincolnshire.
Stamford is 90 miles north of London and easily accessible by road (A1)
or rail (Stamford-Peterborough, Leicester and Birmingham line). Stamford
station is just 2 minutes walk from the hotel. There is adequate free
car parking at the rear of the hotel.
