We don't allow a break between back to back units. The students stay in
their seats still under exam conditions. Should a student wish to visit the
toilet they have to request this in the normal way (hold hand up!) they are
then supervised to the loo and back.

Subject: The break between A level / AS level units
> Dear all
>
> We are trying to review our procedures for administering the supervised
break between A level / AS level units that are timetabled back-to-back. At
the moment we allow a 15 minute supervised break to enable to invigilators
to collect in the first paper and prepare for the second etc. We allow
students to go to the toilet etc but they must be supervised when they leave
the exam room. However, we are facing problems where students are expecting
the interval to be a proper break and the majority are expecting that they
can go to the toilet! It is proving very difficult to supervise large
numbers of students that leave the room. Also, tutors are telling students
that they will have a proper break between units and not just a supervised
interval. I would welcome advise from other centres!
