medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
What some of these establishments should be called depends on
the time period, the country, and the sources the researcher is
looking at. Eg, Knowles & Hadcock say that a lot of leper
hospitals in England in time became ordinary hospitals. The
query asked about almshouses while the more common name to cover
this range of institution, in England anyway, is hospital.
