medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear all,
I have two questions for a british screen-writing cousin of mine who is
working on a teenage horror film (yes) that revolves around the motif of
martyrdom (its a very clever plot, actually).
Most specifically, can anyone think of a female martyr saint who was
killed my animals. I suppose being killed in the arena is sufficient. It
would be good if she had a name the translated easily into the modern
idiom.
Second, I've promised my cousin that there was a grand tradition of
vengeful saints (you get the premise of the horror film...), and I can
think of a few off the top of my head but they seem not quite right. Can
anyone think of good examples of a vengeful martyr-saint who wrought
revenge, especially on someone who desecrated the church/relics/lands/etc.
of the saint.
I know this is specific. I can't imagine examples don't exist.
Many thanks and great appreciation will follow any and all help. I am
about to go trolling through Butler...
