medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I don't know exactly what your friend might be seeking, but there is an
extensive theological literature in the Middle Ages on true happiness
and in what it might consist. Most theologians, in fact, would connect
true happiness with peace, joy. love and ultimately salvation. I would
be cautious in taking Thomas Aquinas as representative of all theology
in the Middle Ages (or even the thirteenth century), but he is readily
available in English, so one might start with the Summa, Pars I,- II,
question 31 which discusses pleasure and joy.
