medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I for one have never seen this description used in reference to Benedict.
Very interesting.

medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
i recently found this interesting reference to St. Benedict in a Bull of Leo
VII confirming the possessions and privileges of Fleury, issued at Rome, 9
January, 938, PL 132.1075-6 (after Mabillon, Acta SS. ord. S. Bened., V,
907),
"[col. 1076C]...coenobium beatissimi Benedicti, qui est Pater et dux
monachorum..."
is this reference to Benedict a common one ?
Hugo, dux Francorum is also mentioned in the Bull, so maybe it's a play on
his
presence (?), but it just struck me as curious.
but, i don't know from Bulls.
best from here,
christopher
