Dear Librarians,
There now is an online version of the well-established Statesman's
Yearbook, SYBWorld. After extensive consultation with librarians in both
the public and academic field, it emerged that an interactive electronic
version of The Statesman’s Yearbook, with regular updates, in-text links to
related sites and remote access for library users, could add significant
value to the print version. SYBWorld offers even more extensive coverage
than its print sibling of global socio-political information, economic
data, city profiles, territory and population, communications and culture,
and much more. It also has a current affairs section, offering a "digest"
of the latest world news which is updated on a daily basis. It has a very
intuitive and user-friendly map-based interface which allows for quick and
efficient searching. Moreover, it provides over 2000 links to sites with
more information about the subject concerned. It’s therefore the ideal
reference and research tool for anyone who wants to find reliable and
validated information about any country in the world, and it’s the perfect
gateway for research across the Internet.
This summer, Palgrave Macmillan are offering librarians a chance to become
familiar with this unique resource by means of a free summer trial
providing full access to the database in the months of July and August.
