We have also had major problems with UCIs. One of the digits in the centre of
the UCI is not so much board specific as specific to the main 4 awarding bodies
(or so I was told by AQA). We also have tried to collect the UCIs at enrolment
and failed and we have asked the schools for the UCI and this also failed.
This year we have contacted the LEA and discussed our problem with them. They
have informed me that they obtain all the exam results for the local schools
and after checking they also think (fingers crossed) that they receive the
UCIs. We have come to an agreement that I will contact them shortly before the
GCSE results are due to act as a reminder and they will try to arrange the UCIs
into a database so that our MIS Manager can download this for the students who
have completed enrolments. I'm not sure of the exact arrangements but it may
be worth contacting your own LEAs to see if you can try something similar. As
we all appreciate the UCI system will not function properly unless it has some
form of central administration (like the LEAs). Good Luck everyone!!!
