Hi Jean
Myerscough use City & Guilds, we have a exam clerk directly responsible for
key skills which are initially registered through the walled garden against
the main qualification. We register 800 a year each student takes IT, Com &
Num from level 1 to 3 on test, portfolio and a possible proxy or Basic
skills - we seem to managed this low number quite successfully under the
following structure.
Admissions collects extra copy of certificate at enrolment - missing copies
collected by Key Skills Co-ordinator - This is used for proxy claim held in
front of portfolio.
Exams - block registers students after enrolment.
K.S.C - Each student undergoes a diagnostic test on entry to determine
level.
Exams - forwards City & Guilds registration data to K.S.C to become starting
point for a key skills database.
Exams informs - K.S.C next exam window & deadline date.
Key Skills Co-ordinator - submits names to be entered.
Exams - enters students via walled garden.
(Last 3 points are repeated during academic year)
KSC - meets with External Verifier for portfolio moderation.
Assessment board held - achievement reported on an internal form showing
proxy / portfolio & test.
Exams - puts through Portfolio and proxy details to City & Guilds.
City & Guilds prices are set to increase which means less opportunities for
students to resit. Tuition is 3 hours per week 108 a year the exam sessions
and classes have low attendance but this is hopefully going to change, it
may even become a disciplinary matter for those serial offenders!
Yes, there is a lot of admin but we manage to hand a lot of result / reg
data out in class - saves postage and time.
