We drastically reduced the costs by using ordinary metal locking filing
cabinets and asking one of our 'premises/repair' guys to make the bars and
padlocks and weld them to the cabinets. He secured plates to the top and bottom
(front) of the cabinet and bent a strong bar into a upside down L. The bar
fits over the top metal plate and into a slot in the bottom plate. Then an
ordinary padlock is used to secure the bar to the top plate. It is impossible
to remove the bar without unlocking the padlock and the drawers of the cabinet
cannot be opened with the bar in place.
It was cheap and easy ... they have been in place for a couple of years now and
the boards are more than happy with them.
