I agree.

Can I make a please to those people who want to sign off to stop posting messages. As Richard has already said you use:

Thanks.

I am a new member to the Network and find the messages of value. Various topics might seem insignificant to some people but can be of value (and reassuring) to others. I have a lot to learn about how to use the Network so thank you Alex for your comments.

TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE LIST!

Can I add to the debate about the mailing list/volumes of messages?

The amount of mail on this list is quite reasonable and probably less than
on many other mailing lists that I subscribe to.

It IS sensible for people to respond to the list, the whole point of the
list is that public(ish) debate and conversation can take place. It is also
reasonable (but normally the exception) to reply only to individuals if you
        want to say something privately.

If users find they are getting too many messages from a particular list,
they might find it helpful to visit
        http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/wa.exe?SUBED1=fe-exams-network&A=1

After logging in, this page will allow you to choose a 'digest' rather than
        every message delivered individually.

You can also view posted messages on the web at
        http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/FE-EXAMS-network.html

Alternatively (and this is the route I take), if you use a mail program
similar to Microsoft Outlook, you can setup folders for different mailing
lists. Mail rules (See Outlook/Tools Menu/Rules Wizard) can automatically
move the messages into the correct folder on your system.

I have half a dozen of these folders setup and the hundred or so messages I
get a day from various lists are sorted into the right folders. Every now
and then I 'dip-in' and review messages that might be of interest.

I'm sorry if anyone is irritated by the points I make (or yet another
message!), but I do think that the mailing list is a useful resource and
would be very sorry if people continue to leave it (or posted less
messages). I'm not the owner of this list, so my view is only a personal
one (albeit from a mailing list veteran).

        Does anyone have any comments?

        Regards

        Alex Richards

PS - One last request, if you do want to leave the list, please don't post a
message to it... you are only adding to the messages that people are
        objecting to... instead goto

        http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/FE-EXAMS-network.html

        and unsubscribe from there!

I'm having to sign off because the amount of mail that gets generated is
absolutely ludicrous. People are replying to each other via the network
rather than directly and this ruins it for everyone. This is a good idea to
share ideas and experiences but I for one do not have the time to sort
        through all the mail.
