medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
First stop on any inquiry into medieval Latin parody is of course Martha
Bayless' *Parody in the Middle Ages. The Latin Tradition*. A glance at
Bayless' index does not turn up a reference to Gerhoh, but her chapter 4 is
entirely devoted to liturgical parody.

medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hi. I have just encountered, in a twelfth-century text (Gerhoh of
Reichersberg) a description of an obscene parody of the mass. I had
thought this kind of thing was an invention of the later middle
ages. Could someone with more background on witchcraft/diabolism/etc. than
me point me in the direction of reliable literature on this subject? Many
thanks.
