According to Jean Toutmouille, who was one of the two Dominicans who informed Joan that she was to be burned that morning, what Joan said was "Alas! that they treat me so horribly and cruelly that my body, clean and whole, which was never corrupted, should be today consumed and reduced to ashes! Ah! I would prefer to be beheaded seven times that to be burned like that! Alas! if I had been in an ecclesiastical prison to which I submitted myself, and if I had been guarded by men of the church, not be enemies and adversaries, it would not have turned out for me as miserably as it has. Ah! I protest before God, the Great Judge, the great wrongs and grievances that they have done me" (from R. Pernoud and M-V Clin, Joan of Arc, rev. and trans. J.D. Adams, N.Y. 1998, 133-4).
There may have been attempted rape, but Joan would surely not have spoken so if it had succeeded.
