Dear All,
Greetings from coastal Suffolk.
Some of you may be aware that public health doctors in Ireland are taking
industrial action. According to the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) the
doctors are on strike to bring about a safe system of public health medicine
that meets international standards, including an out-of-hours system. IMO
fact sheet on this industrial dispute is available is available @

I have written an electronic letter in the BMJ on this subject, which can be
accessed on line @

There appears to be diametrically opposing views on the morality and ethics
of health service employees taking industrial action in the literature.
During my search, I found limited literature on the impact of industrial
action by health professionals mainly from Israel & Canada.
Is anyone aware of evidence (published or otherwise) on the impact of
industrial action by health professionals in general and public health
physicians in particular?
Have a wonderful long weekend (At least in the UK)
Cheers & regards,
Badri

Conflict of interest: I will be conferred the Membership of the Faculty of
Public Health Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland on 27th
of May having passed the relevant examinations.
