medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear all,
I am hoping for some help from those of you who might know your ways around
the sources of exegesis better than myself. I need to find out what the
discourse about the figure of Joshua and the Book of Joshua was in the
11-13th centuries, with particular attention to the first half of the 13th
century. Specifically, I am interested in
1) how the story of Joshua relates to ideas about crusading,
2) what was being said about the episode in Joshua 7 concerning the sins of
Achor (or Achan), and
3) whether there is any tradition anywhere of Joshua crying over this
episode
I know and have gone through the evidence provided by the Moralized Bibles,
but need to dig deeper and wider, and I am afraid I have no idea how and
where one begins rooting out an exegetical tradition like this. Help, and
direction to sources and method, would be enormously appreciated. On or off
list,
Thank you,
Cecilia
