>I'd like to bring a recent development to the attention of the list since it
may be of inestimable value to postgraduates for their dissertations and
papers. The Friends of the Centre for English Local History in its series of
Papers has published a mapping tutorial by a software developer, Mandy
deBelin. This tutorial addresses both CorelDraw and GenMapUK. GenMapUK which
is a quick-and-dirty package which produces polysymbol distribution maps and
county floodfill maps for the British Isles (using historical county
boundaries). I'd like to mention one other recent development. The idea is
to provide a hands-on tutorial to familiarise people with the basics of the
two packages by doing a specific project. What you receive is the tutorial in
paper copy, but also the tutorial on a disk with a .gif image of an historical
map for one of the hands-on projects. The mapping tutorial is available for
the inconsiderable price of £6 sterling plus p+p. We hope that this tutorial
will assist postgraduates to produce Figures of good quality for their
dissertations and papers and so ww hope that you do not mind our bringing it
to a wider attention.

>This 58-page booklet with accompanying disk covers two software packages that
can help you produce professional quality maps for your documents. The first
part of the tutorial introduces you to CorelDRAW and guides you through the
exercise of creating a map. The second part of the tutorial introduces you to
GenMap and guides you through the process of creating two maps that
demonstrate different features of GenMap. The tutorial gives you experience of
the basic use of these tools.
