medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
A propos of Adiutor, this saint's name is usually spelled "Adjutor" both in French and in English. Those wondering how a Norman knight who wound up at Tiron would become associated by name with Verona (a place not known for its Normans, either in the twelfth century or at other times) might consider both this saint's usual association with Vernon in Haute Normandie and the ease with which clearly recognisable garbles are perpetuated by those for whom mundane factual accuracy is not perhaps a primary consideration. Would the latter include one or more of Phyllis' sources? Heaven forfend!!
