medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Marjorie,
Thanks for responding, and for doing so enthusiastically.
I know I have seen a gothic capital with demons trying to cheat at weighing
souls (a common trick, those untrustworthy rapscalions!); this is something
else again.
~
I seem to recall either a poorly executed painting or, more likely, an
enlarged ill. ms.depiction of Good Trustworthy Saint Peter facing something
or someone or another, while these foolish little (black as I recall them)
scheming devils tried to grab one or more of his keys from behind his back
Not that they stood a chance, mind you, but it just goes to show.
~
We recently discussed, on-list, the number of Saint Peter's keys, but
nothing I've found deals with the threats to their provenance with which the
Good Saint must, daily, contend.
Best / Thanks,
jm
~~
