medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Bouvines").
Beauvais bishop, Philip of Dreux, was acting as a warrior at the Bouvines
battle ; but he used to play with a mace, not with a sword, or any weapon
that draw bloob of the enemy : this anecdote is told by the chronicler
William the Breton, in his historical poem The Philippide, XI, verses 538-
578 (cf. G. Duby, "Le dimanche de Bouvines").
