medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Thanks to Steve, William and Christina for very helpful comments .
I suspect the monument is not in its original place, but was moved there at
some point - after the French Revolution ? - because the Greyfriars church
is the "necropolis" for the House of Lorraine - and Anne de Vaudemont was a
Lorraine by birth.
It really is an extraordinary and deeply moving monument. Most funerary
statues however fine are conventional and / or dead (in both senses!) but
here the sculptor has captured some of the agony of those missing 16 years.
