Libraries in Leeds have recently been branded Accesspoints. Pathways is a
concept being developed to lead people in a variety of ways ? virtual and
physical, towards these accesspoints.
The first trial was held in Rothwell as the new library was built. The
process of community engagement was aimed at tripping the imagination of
non-users.
Elements included a Time-lapse tea party, a Virtual Library and Exhibition
of Expectations and a Fresh Page walk through sculpture event
10.50 CYPAC ? Suzanne Wainwright & June Martin: First Contact/Connexions
In 2001 the library service, in partnership with the Youth Service and the
Police, was successful in gaining SRB funding for a project which would
create a youth drop in information and support centre in Compton Road
library to reduce crime as a youth crime diversionary initiative, provide
support for job seekers and tackle issues of anti social behaviour.
The aim of the centre was to support those young people who feel alienated
and unsupported by their local community by providing access to relevant
information and advice, helping them make better life choices, avoid crime
and gain a better quality of life

11.35The Beat ? Abby Dix: Pavilion
The Beat was an enormously successful Wolfson funded creative writing
project for young people aged 15 - 21 from inner city Leeds. The aim was to

through writing and performing their own material or reading and hearing

its image to match the transformation in its service. Catherine will
outline the steps needed to provide the foundations on which to build an
image or a brand, how you need to define the benefits of what you do and
