"IODP Drilling of the Middle America Subduction Zone - Osa Transect"
"Town meeting" at EGS/AGU/EUG, Nice
Tuesday April 8th 19:30-21:00 Lecture Room R5 of the Acropolis Centre
Destructive great earthquakes are significant hazards in the Middle America
Subduction Zone, which is a focus area of the Seismogenic Zone Experiment
(SEIZE), but also the locale of intensive recent geophysical and geological
investigation by European groups. In order to inform the community about
on-going projects, to highlight outstanding problems, and to encourage new
collaborations, we are sponsoring a discussion on the just submitted
Overview and Stage 1 IODP proposals to drill the Middle America Trench
seismogenic zone, and in view of the preparation for submission of the
Stage 2 proposal.
The workshop focused on the following topics:
*Why Seismogenic Zone Research - Serge Lallemand
*Erosional Convergent Margins and why Costa Rica - Dave Scholl
*Geophysical studies - Cesar Ranero
*Overview of CRISP (Costa RIca Seismogenesis Project) drill strategy -
Roland von Huene
*Stage 1 drill program - Peter Clift
We would encourage short presentations from the floor on current or planned
research in the Middle America Subduction Zone and end with a freeform
general discussion.
We invite all interested geoscientists to come
