medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I have just checked with a specialist for all types of cleaning. Warmth
itself enhances chemical processes, also those that occur by cleaning with
pure water. So warm water indeed cleans better. The sensation however might
be different, as cold water of course pumps up blood circulation and seems
more refreshing. Good luck with the sources.
Best wishes,

Subject: [M-R] What cleans better: Cold water or warm water ?
medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I am working on an article that deals, among other things, with attitudes in
Jewish sources (from all periods) about the question above: What cleans
better: Cold water or warm water ? The question, stupid as it might seem, is
very crucial to understand attitudes about ritual purification. Can a warm
ritual bath be "kosher", despite the fact that in nature water is generally
cold ? Maybe it is even better ? Is warm water as "fresh", and/or "living",
as cold water ? I assume that today most people will say warm water cleans
better than cold water. If you think I am wrong, please let me know. Does
anybody know about such discussions and concepts in whatever sources
(Greco-Roman, Christian, scientific, medical ...) ? I will be very happy to
know about such sources.
Thanks,
