We have started running the tests in the students usual class, invigilated
by their tutor so it is less daunting as an exam. In some areas the tutors
don't tell them they are doing a test until they come into the lesson - this
has had a major impact on improving attendance levels (from 23% the first
year to around 80% this time). Where they are told in advance it is played
down and not called an exam, but more a test, which can be repeated monthly
until they pass, this seems to have helped too.

Out of 170 students I had entered for Key Skills 2 in January I had 42 turn

Southgate College use Edexcel for our Key Skills. Apart from the initial
entry everything has to be done using their forms so its all manual. I had
61 pages of forms to fill out and sign so yes it is very time consuming. We
register per key skill level (1&2) roughly 400 - 500 students we are lucky
if we get 50% attendance.
Is this the same for other colleges??

Could I ask which Boards people use for Key Skills, do they find that
the admin of them very time consumint. What sort of numbers of students
are you putting through and do you have a poor attendance.
