West Herts College made a decision to go with EdExcel for all its Key
Skills. The aim is to have all of our A Level and Vocational students
complete Key Skills as a part of their course (last year we registered 3.400
students. A major problem we encounter is the tutors using such awful
phrases as 'its not compulsory'...
That was such a success that nearly every department now uses a different
Board - C&G, IMI, NCFE - you name it we use it!
Admin with the Guilds is much easier, and the overall cost for 'less
academically able' students is much lower since their registration charge
includes as many resits for as many tests as necessary. Also the Guilds
deadline for registration/entry is now only 3 weeks before the test date (as
opposed to EdExcel's register by 15 November).

Could I ask which Boards people use for Key Skills, do they find that
the admin of them very time consumint. What sort of numbers of students
are you putting through and do you have a poor attendance.
