The Department of City and Regional Planning, Cardiff University and the Forestry Commission have been engaged in a partnership programme of research on social forestry over the last three years. The partnership has been extended to research the connections between rural governance and forestry in Wales.
Responsible to Project Directors Dr Paul Milbourne and Professor Terry Marsden, the Research Associate will investigate systems of rural governance in Wales with special reference to the forestry sector. The researcher will conduct fieldwork in two areas of Wales and will be expected to conduct interviews with policy makers, NGOs and community groups.
The post will require a PhD in geography or other relevant area of the social sciences and experience of using qualitative research methods. You should have experience of report writing and academic publishing and should be committed to producing high quality academic outputs.
The post is fixed-term for 30 months and available from 1st May 2003.
Salary: £18265 - £27339 per annum - the maximum starting salary will be £21,125 per annum.

The studentships commence September 2003. Each award carries a stipend of approx. £1,450 above normal ESRC studentship level.
