Dear All,
Due to sabbatical arrangements, Jim Duncan and I are looking
for someone reliable who could offer some lectures on our
Culture and Society course next academic year (2003-4) during
the autumn term. The course is a second year course, which attracts
about 35 students each year.
Particularly, we need to cover for 6 or
possibly 7 lectures which include an introduction to the course, and
then 3 lectures on Marxism/post-Marxism, and 3 on post-structuralism.
The way we teach it (and will teach it in Spring 2004) is for one
introductory lecture on the theory/concepts and then 2 'case study'
lectures in which the work by geographers using this theory is
transformed/enhanced/re-worked by its encounter with substantive
situations - First world, third world, urban, rural, etc etc. The
idea is to enthuse students to use theory critically to further their
understandings of culture and society, from a geographical
perspective.
Cambridge pays around £55 per hour for lecturing (I think), plus
travel expenses. There are also small discussion classes
(supervisions) to go with the lectures, which are paid at around
£20/hour by colleges. If anyone is interested, or would like more
information, please contact either myself or Dr Jim Duncan, c/o
Department of Geography. Sarah Radcliffe
Dear Sarah,
Pity about Nick. Maybe you can write an advert for 6 0r 7 lectures.
3 Marxism and 3 postmodernism?
Lets hope someone responds. Failing that Steve can do the pomo in
Lent if you can find someone to do marxism.
Cheers,
Jim
