medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I was at Assisi this past fall and have a book on St Francis. It describes
the "tunic" as follows:
"The most eloquent evidence of the way in which Francis lived is this tunic
in rough sheep's wool, a coarse fabric with white and black threads, greyish
in colour. It is the expression of his detachment from worldly things and
clearly indicates the Saint's social preferences"

I was able to view the Movie , Brother Sun, Sister Moon about the life of
St Francis - will look up my notes on the trip to see who the director was -
quite well done. My Priest is a Franciscan and the order is well and alive
today
