Julia:
One or more of the six British (in the wider sense) copyright libraries
(except for TCD which is currently 'hors de combat')- if not a couple of
others (e.g. Guildhall Library, City of London, and Manchester City Library)
- will soon rush forward with answer(s) and offers of help! But I have no
wish to goad them into action. You might care to specify to all of
'Lis-maps' which particular town(s) you seek; some of the relevant county
archives and/or local history collections may hold some different states.
There are occasional alternatives to Goad, as you are doubtless aware. See,
e.g., chapter 16 'Fire insurance plans' by Gwyn Rowley in:-
Historians' guide to early British maps: a guide to the location of pre-1900
maps of the British Isles preserved in the United Kingdom and Ireland / gen.
ed.: Helen Wallis ; assisted by Anita McConnell. - London : Royal
Historical Society, 1994. - (RHS guides and handbooks, ISSN 0080-4398 ; no.
18). - ISBN 0-86193-141-6

Subject: Goad fire insurance maps
Hello,
I am trying to obtain historical fire insurance Goad maps but am
having difficulties tracking down where they now are. Goad
apparently sold these maps to some company (PMRS?) - they
have no contact details for this company.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks.
Julia
