We moved about a year ago into a converted ice factory! We were consulted
but a lot of what we wanted didn't happen due to competing interests. We
had what we thought were masses of computer points put in - already we wish
we had more.
Storage space is improved but not as big or as easy of access as first
agreed.
Public access is still an issue, but we are also involved in trying to get
an HLF project to help this one.
Also we are currently getting a new museum. Although the archaeology
service has not been included (an error I feel) we are involved in the
design stage and there will be SMR access via a terminal there. How we
might staff it is still very much under discussion.
Orkney's archaeological service has also just moved. Suggest you speak to
Julie Gibson.
Cheers
Val

Subject: Premises
Hi there
I am trying to find examples of where SMRs and also excavation units have
moved into newly refurbished or built premises, where the specification for
the work was written specifically to suit the needs of the SMR or unit. I am
aware of new designs for archaeological stores, and the County Record Office
world appears to be getting quite a few shiny new buildings, but does anyone
know of similar projects for archaeology offices?
Regards
