medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
As is well known the Franciscans are called grey friars after the colour of
their robes, but in the majority of Medieval paintings the colour of the
robes is brown (for example St Francis picture on The Franciscan Insitute
Library homepage)

Did they change to wearing brown and if so when did the change from grey to
brown take place
Cheers
