We are very excited about the upcoming 9th National / 2nd International
Conference on Abuse of Children and Adults with Disabilities. This is the only
ongoing Conference on this topic in the United States Many of you have
participated in the past by co-sponsoring, exhibiting, presenting and
participating during the event. This year we have received partial funding from
the Governor's Office on Criminal Justice Planning to help insure wide
participation and national attention for this event and for this critical issue
facing many people with disabilities. This funding is part of a larger grant
given by this office to Nora Baladerian, Ph.D. and Arc Riverside to implement
several important initiatives in the area of Abuse and Disabilities. In
addition, we have received funding from the Department of Justice Office for
Victims of Crime, which is providing extensive support and guidance for the
Conference.
The Conference will be held at the Riverside Convention Center Host hotels
include the Riverside Marriott Hotel, the Courtyard by Marriott, and the
beautiful and historic Mission Inn. This year's conference will bring together
dedicated professionals and advocates in the field for 2½ days of education,
activities and events. It will feature a special "Master's Series" program that
provides an opportunity to honor and highlight individuals from throughout the
United States Canada and other countries, who have made important contributions
to this field over the years. These individuals are pioneers and premier
researchers and conference attendees will have an opportunity to hear from and
interact with these inspirational leaders. To date, the following presenters
have confirmed: Bonnie Brandl, Paul Greenwood, Candace Heisler, Robert Perske,
Victor Rivers, Dick Sobsey, Justice Teitelman, and Joye Whately, among others…
We are working hard to assure that most types of abuse and disability are
covered and a wide variety of presentations are offered at this year's
conference.
We are seeking your support for this conference of national significance. what
do we need? Just your assistance in "getting the word out" about the
Conference. You can register for the Conference online, obtain hotel
registration materials online, see the program that is going to be presented,
and learn about our exciting pre-conference activities.
Thanks for your interest in issues of disability and violence, and your
assistance in helping others learn of this important conference.
Sincerely,
