seems like there should be a Fourth Class in there, somewhere (probably near
the end), to which the pilgrims' badges from Aachen would surely belong.
i understand that they were fitted out with little mirrors in them, the idea
being that you used the badge to catch a glimpse of the relic of the Holy
Tunic of the Virgin which was monstrated to pilgrims periodically.
Johann Gutenberg was a mirror maker for those things until he over borrowed to
gear up for the Great Pilgrimage of 1439 (which, it turn out, was actually the
Great Pilgrimage of 1440), his business failed for lack of timely customers,
and he went on to find his True Calling.
I'm not sure what that last says about the efficacy of those particular
badges, or Fourth Class Relics in general, however.
