I am currently looking at a small assemblage from a Late Roman cemetery in
southwark. I have identified several instances of animal remains that may be
the result of either food offerings or grave goods. I have plenty of
archaeological and zooarchaeological references. What I am interested in
finding out is whether there are any primary sources which mention these
practices. Does anyone know of any Roman authors who describe the use of
animals/food in the Roman (or indeed Romano-British) death ritual.
Many Thanks
Sylvia
