Dear Zooarchs!
Last month we launched a new mail list to discuss archaeozoological topics, mainly in Spanish language. Its name is RIARQZOO (Red Iberoamericana de Arqueozoología, means Iberoamerican Network of Archaeozoology)
The idea was born during an informal meeting in Durham by Iberoamerican researchers that saw ZOOARCH as an example that we should try to repeat.
We don’t feel RIARQZOO will compete with either zooarch list or ICAZ. On the contrary, it will complement these by incorporating people that does research in the Central and South American Area, where exists a growing interest in this topic.
RIARZOO has already detected 120 researches in the area and many are non-ICAZ members working in countries such as Argentina, Chile, Perú and México. We also have some members in Colombia, Brasil, Cuba, Ecuador and Uruguay.
Our principal aims for next future are to create and maintain:
1)A researcher’s directory for Iberoamerican countries,
2)A reference database with archaeozoological literature produced in the area (in general poorly known in the English spoken-world)
3)The exchange and support of people and resources (like almost everybody, we don’t have resources!)
4)Make this information available on a web page
We hope to gain the support from zooarch and of those interested in the Iberoamerican area in helping us to promote this new list.
Those interested in subscription: send a mail without subject to: [log in to unmask] and write in body text: suscribe RIARQZOO first, last name.
As one of the administrators of RIARQZOO and also a subscriber of ZOOARCH I intend to serve as a bridge between both lists
For further information about RIARQZOO, you can also address your questions to:
Eduardo Corona-M. (to this mail) or Juan Rofes ([log in to unmask]) or Arturo Morales ([log in to unmask]).
