Hi Nicola
At present I am running a series of events in conjunction with the RSCs
on using VLEs to deliver the post-16 curriculum. Each event is being
hosted by a college who has made progress in delivering part of their
curriculum through a VLE. My experience so far suggests that students
take to some aspects of the VLE without much difficulty, e.g. accessing
content, course information and assessments, but need help and support
in using the comminication tools effectively. The other aspect to this
is that, where staff training has been effective, then student success
in using a vle is much greater. If staff are confident in its use, then
students are more likely to be.
If you have a look here
http://www.nln.ac.uk/Materials/Common/displaynews.asp?id=374
you can get details of the colleges who are hosting our VLE events. I'm
sure any of them would answer any specific queries you have.

Subject: Using VLEs with 16-18 year olds
Remember that replies go to the entire list!
********************************************
I am currently researching into the use of VLEs with 16-18 year olds. I
am looking to develop an online module using WebCT to help AVCE/GNVQ ICT
students to develop the necessary skills to succeed in learning online.
This would most probably be delivered using a blended learning approach.
I am really interested in what others are doing with this age group.
Any
experiences or advice? What works or does not work with this age group?
Regards
Nicola Hanson
