Good Morning
I have just joined this list.
Does anyone have terms of reference, job descriptions,
outcomes/objectives statements, I could avoid re-inventing for their
College ILT Champions?
Thanks
JE

You have been added to the VLE mailing list (Virtual
Learning
Environments) by Geoff Minshull <[log in to unmask]>.
Welcome to the vle list. This email gives you essential information
about
how the list works, and it is very important that you read it now,
and
keep it, in case you need to refer to it later.
Purpose of the list
The list is to promote discussion about VLEs, their implementation
and
use. We hope the list will be active, and we encourage contributions
to
the list.
The list is owned by Ferl, an information service for all staff
working
within the Post Compulsory Education sector. Ferl supports
individuals
and organisations in making effective use of ILT.
The list is managed for Ferl by Geoff Minshull
([log in to unmask]).
A few important things to note:
1. You send an email to the list by emailing:
[log in to unmask]
2. If you reply to a message from the list, the reply goes to the
entire
list. Normally, this may be what you want. However, if your email
is
personal, or only of interest to the person who originally emailed
the
list, you should make sure you just reply to that person, rather than
to
the whole list. You will have to cut and paste their email address to
do
this. It's in the from field of the email.
3. When you want to leave the list (e.g. you change jobs, or your
email
address changes) send an email to
[log in to unmask]
and, in the body of the email, put:
leave vle
If you have a signature (or footer) file, you should switch it off,
or
put a -- (i.e. two dashes) on the line below, otherwise JISCmail
will
read your signature and try to interpret it as a series of commands.
The
dashes stop this happening. This is only when you send commands
to
jiscmail, not when you send messages to the list itself - sig files
are
fine then.
4. When you go on holiday, you can suspend your list membership so
you
don't get lots of emails when you return. Email:
[log in to unmask]
and in the body of the message put:
set VLE nomail
and when you get back, use
set VLE mail
If you're a member of more than one JISCmail list, to suspend, use:
set * nomail
To resume email from all lists
set * mail
Some people use vacation programs which send an automatic reply to
any
message received while they are on holiday. If you use a
vacation
program, please make sure that it does not send any messages to
jiscmail
lists, otherwise eveybody just gets irritated by lots of emails
saying
you are on holiday.
5. Normally you will receive messages from a list one at a time, as
and
when they are posted to the list. But if you set the digest option,
lots
of messages will be sent to you in one large email. Some people find
this
more convenient, especially on busy lists. To do this, email
[log in to unmask]
and put in the body of the message:
set vle digest
6. You can also manage your account via the champ-curriculum web
page.
You can find this on:
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/vle.html
And that's it. If you've got any queries, email Geoff
on
