This event may be of interest to list members, in particular the demo of
innovative Australian project COLIS... see below:
The 6th meeting of the CETIS Educational Content SIG will take place on
Feb. 25th 2003 in London (venue to be announced).
Registrations are now open. This meeting is free, and lunch will be
provided. Please publicise widely. Spaces are limited.
Attractions include:
* News from CETIS and the SIGs, including the new Pedagogy Forum, the
recent Code Bash, and the future of CETIS.
* A live demo of the Australian digital learning object repository COLIS
by James Dalziel of COLIS / WebMCQ and the Australian IMS Centre.
* Standards based, involving 5 universities and 5 vendors.
* Incorporates a Learning Object Trading Exchange; a Learning
Object Management System with digital rights management; VLE; and a
search gateway which cross searches a number of databases and library
catalogues as well as the LO database.
* Digital rights management throughout learning object
lifecycle.
* Implements IMS Content Packaging, Digital Repositories,
Metadata specs.
* Interesting contributions to the "what is a learning object
anyway?" debate based on their experience so far.
* Hot-off-the-press reports from the IMS Meeting in Vancouver (held the
previous week), including the latest on IMS Content Packaging (presently
undergoing maintenance updates with input from the CETIS Code Bash);
Simple Sequencing (v1.0 Final Spec recently approved); and Learning
Design (what's happened since the last exciting installment?).
* As requested at the last meeting, breakout discussion time, with
sub-groups which may include:
* "Beginners: Stupid Questions Only Allowed";
* "Code Bash Reunion";
* "Pedagogy Issues" (in anticipation of the launch of the CETIS
Pedagogy Forum);
* "SCORM";
* "Conformance Testing",
or whatever else is deemed by the SIG to be most in need of discussion
on the day.
* The latest on EML / Valkenburg; CEN/ISSS (standards in Europe); the
JISC X4L Strand B projects.
