1. Enhancing Your Web Pages
Further HTML, CSS, Design and Accessibility
09:30 - 16:30 Tuesday 25th February 2003
At Strathclyde University
Having mastered the basics of HTML fairly quickly, many web developers
will then look for ways in which they can enhance their pages. For
example, HTML form tags can be used to create web page interfaces to
allow (often complex) user interaction. Cascading Style Sheets can also
help developers exercise precise control over the display of page
content, whilst providing the opportunity to present the same content in
several ways (without maintaining duplicate web pages!). Both methods
are explored in this workshop. Accessibilty is rapidly becoming the
driving force behind the design considerations for many web sites. This
workshop will also investigate some of the fundamental steps required to
produce accessible content as well as introducing current guidelines and
web standards. This workshop provides a platform from which to make the
next step towards more attractive, functional and accessible web content
as well as providing a brief overview of some more advanced technologies
for web interaction and content management/delivery.
This is a practical workshop for users of the World Wide Web who have
had some experience of creating basic web pages and want to develop
their pages further. Whilst it may be attended as a stand-alone
workshop, it also follows on from the Netskills workshop "Web Pages from
Scratch".
This workshop can count towards the Netskills / BTEC Professional
Development Certificate in Web Development. See our accreditation pages
at http://www.netskills.ac.uk/accreditation for more information on this
programme.
Workshop Content:
The workshop will comprise presentations, demonstrations and hands-on
sessions with opportunities for questions and discussion. Participants
will each receive a workbook which contains workshop exercises,
presentation slides and other relevant materials.
Workshop Requirements
Participants should have previously used the World Wide Web through a
browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer and MUST have authored
simple web pages using HTML. Knowledge of basic HTML tags such as for
including images and hypertext links is essential. Experience of using
Microsoft Windows for opening and saving files and opening and closing
applications such as a Web browser would be helpful.
Joining details and further information will be sent to participants
prior to the workshop.
Kind Regards
