Dear RuSS Members and Friends,
I would like to remind you and give you more details about the forthcoming
talk by Professor Angela Livingstone
"Dreams, Seasons, and Great Admirations:
Early poems by Pasternak, and how to translate them"
which will happen THIS COMING MONDAY,
24th February 2003, 7:30 pm,
at Wolfson Court, Clarkson Rd (off Grange Rd)
- there is a map on our website: http://www.camruss.com
Professor Angela Livingstone is a well-known expert in the 20th century
Russian literature, with particular interest in Platonov and Pasternak. She
is a Research Professor in the Department of Literature at the University of
Essex and author of "Pasternak and Creativity" (1985) and "Boris Pasternak:
Doctor Zhivago" (1989). Many of you will remember her fascinating talk on
Platonov two years ago, when she discussed her translation of "Kotlovan".
She will share her thoughts and experience on translating Pasternak's
poetry, and will be happy answer any of your questions about his writings.
AFTER THE TALK, please don't run away! There will be bites and drinks to
warm us up (or cool us down), so that we could indulge in discussing and
reciting poetry (and other beautiful things), at an even more informal
level. And Marina has promised to bring her guitar! Anybody is welcome to
contribute in any way.
BEFORE THE TALK, Kitty Stidworthy has agreed to give us a brief presentation
about St.Gregory's Foundation, a charity with a particular focus on Russia.
(If RuSS makes any profit, we would like to help!)
Entrance: free for members free, 2 pounds for non-members, and, as usual,
there will be a chance to join the Russian Speaking Society on the spot!
Hope to see you there! Do skoroy vstrechi,
Tanya Yurasova
