Hi Maria
Well, what I'd want to do is suggest some poets whose poetry sings for me,
but they might not for you.
Still, from not too far in the past, check out, what's still one of her
very best books, O Taste & See by Levertov. See if you can track down a
copy of anything by Phyllis Webb in a library (uni probably) near you, or
try ordering her The Vision Tree: Selected Poems from Talonbooks in
Vancouver. The poet, Margaret Avison, whose latest book just won the 3rd
Griffin Prize, is an amazing Christian poet (& I usually, except in her
case, would hear that phrase as applied to contemporary writers as an
oxymoron), some of her great early poetry was published in the US, so might
be available in a library there.
These just off the top of my head, as incredibly musical, rhythmic poets.
CD Wright. May Sarton. Daphne Marlatt (Canadian). The two Alison mentioned
from Oz. Oh, I could go on...
