Peter, regarding, a):
"John Doe took an exploitative attitude to a salaried position he held,
which involved him doing nothing for anyone but himself."
I made it quite clear that I withdrew those remarks, that event also
predated my current unusual position on this list.
as for b):
"John Doe is a plagiarist."
I didn't exactly say that but I did carelessly use the word in my initial
post. All my subsequent posts on the matter are quite clear that I didn't
mean that, you yourself quite correctly divined that what I was really
talking about was stylistic derivation, not 'pillaging Larkin' as someone
else actually happily said with approval. So it's ok to suggest that
literary theft is alright as long as, well I don't know, you approve of the
writers? your guess is as good as mine on this, but it's not ok to make a
mistake of expression. None of this makes sense to me, period.
None of this means that I approve of the British honours system, nor those
who acquiesce to it, I am reminded here of Sartre's refusal of the Nobel
prize in, when was it?, 1966? But my distaste for that system is not an
infringement of the rules of this list.

Jon gave some colourful examples of what would constitute personal
abuse. Here are another couple of candidates:
"John Doe took an exploitative attitude to a salaried position he held,
which involved him doing nothing for anyone but himself."
"John Doe is a plagiarist."
It seems to me that both of the above would be personal abuse if made
about a real person. I'd certainly be much more offended if someone
accused me of plagiarism than I would of being accused of being as ugly
as a pimple on a horny toad's ass, for example.
