Dear listmembers,
I have been following the recent postings to the list with interest, and two
concerns spring to mind.
1 Do institutions who are using the fee-based service provided by
turnitin.com realise that the JISC funded Plagiarism Detection Service
hosted on the Plagiarism Advisory Service website at
http://www.jiscpas.ac.uk is based on the turnitin software and, is also
available at no cost to JISC funded institutions?
2 Do institutions who subscribe to the US based service also realise
that using the US service means that personal data will be transferred
outside the EEA, and therefore is not governed by the EU Data Protection
legislation (iParadigms do not currently subscribe to the Safe Harbour
agreement).
I would be particularly interested to know how institutions have resolved
the latter issue.
Regards
