The process followed by the most experienced product designers is to increase the realism of the representation as the design process progresses.Sketches to sketch models to computer renderings to finished models.The danger of presenting too realistic representation too early is that design is an evolutionary process and a visually illiterate client will latch on to an imature design as though it was a real object then it can be very difficult to continue to change and improve the design.
