Dear Ken,
Thanks for this report which is interesting for me but not only in the way you intended. Recently I visited Andalusia in southern Spain (after presenting a paper at the 5th European Design Academy Conference in Barcelona).
My research topic is Spanish Revival style and in the early 1900's American architects also visited this area to gain knowledge and experience of Spanish architecture which was the basis for new design in California and Florida.
I am interested in this process of experiential learning. So far I haven't found any diaries or records from these early visits to Spain although one architect did produce a couple of large format books containing photographs.
Sincerely,
Peter Retallick

Subject: The India Report by Charles and Ray Eames (1958)
Dear Colleagues,<br><br>Dinesh Korjan kindly sent information on a report produced<br>by Charles and Ray Eames involving issues comparable to<br>the design policy studies being done today.<br><br>It is available at URL:<br><br>http://www.nid.edu/download/eames_report.pdf<br><br>Dinesh writes,<br><br>"Your report make very interesting reading. Many of the issues<br>that you describe about Estonia is equally applicable in India<br>especially about the plight of product / industrial designers and<br>the perception of design as an area of uncertain benefits for<br>investment. I thought you might be interested in knowing how<br>Charles Eames approached the matter when he was invited by<br>Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1958 for setting up India's first<br>Design Centre for Research, Service and Training."<br><br>Best regards,<br><br>Ken Friedman<br>
